The 92nd anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania was marked with a march through central Chisinau staged by a group of young people from Moldova and Romania. Waiving tricolors and posters reading “Unification!”, the demonstrators walked along Stefan cel Mare towards the building of Sfatul Tarii (Council of the Country), where they simulated the vote for the Declaration of Unification, Info-Prim Neo reports. Young people from the Romanian cities of Bucharest, Iasi, Sibiu and Vaslui joined the march. George Simion, the leader of the organization Romanian Spirit, has said he is very glad to be in Chisinau today. “Last year two colleagues of ours were arrested at the border, while others were not allowed to pass through the Moldovan customs. This year spirits are high among people from both sides of the Prut River”, said George Simion. Angela Zaporojan of Chisinau, a student in Sibiu, said she came from Romania bringing many friends along. One of her colleagues from Sibiu said she always wanted to come to Moldova. “The union of Bessarabia with Romania is a dream of mine, which I hope will come true one day”, she said. The march was supervised by the police. The event culminated with a Hora – a traditional round dance associated with the 1918 Union – and a light show in the square of the Opera House.
