A number of 190 children from all over the country applied to take part in the children’s National Chess Tournament that will take place at the State University of Physical Education and Sport on January 8 and 9, Info-Prim Neo reports. The competition is aimed at discovering the most talented chess players and at encouraging them to take part in international competitions, the president of the Chess Academy Viorel Iordachescu told a news conference. There will be selected 24 winners, by three in each age bracket. The best competitors will receive diplomas, presents and money awards. 120 of the 190 children who will compete in the National Chess Tournament are from the municipality of Chisinau, while the other 70 from other regions of the country. The children who are not from the capital city will be provided with accommodation and free meals and will be able to take part in a number of recreational activities.
