Some 19% of all the fires that happened in Moldova last year were started deliberately. According to the data presented in a summing up meeting of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service on January 21, 75% of the almost 1,900 fires occur in the housing sector, while 25% - in the agro-industrial sector, IPN reports.

16% of the fires were caused by faulty stoves, while 14% started as a result of careless smoking. To reduce the response time, eight rescuers and firefighting posts were set up last year in rural areas. Ten more such posts are to be opened this year.

According to the reports presented in 2014, 325 emergencies, 112 natural exceptional situations, 215 technogen situations and 1,890 fires happened in Moldova last year.
