18th group of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Moldova to take oaths

The 18th group of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Moldova will take oaths on August 17, 2006, which marks the end of ten weeks of training and the start of two years of service for the Peace Corps Volunteers. According to a press release of the US Embassy to Chisinau, a total of 35 volunteers will take their oaths at the ceremony. 16 members of this group will teach Health Education in schools around the country, while 19 will teach English, working with students ranging from second grade through college. The training for the group was conducted in the Orhei area. Trainees lived with Moldovan host families, took intensive language lessons in Romanian or Russian, and had classes on Moldovan culture and in teaching methods. The Swearing-In Ceremony will take place on August 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the National Philharmonic Hall (#78 Mitropolit Varlaam Str, Chisinau). In total, approximately 130 Peace Corps Volunteers are currently serving in Moldova.
