Education veterans and students on October 12 collected the 2018 Municipal Merit Award that is annually given by the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport to students, athletes and elderly people, IPN reports.

As many as 86 students of secondary general education institutions, 40 students of arts and painting schools, 38 students of sports schools and 18 education veterans from the fields of culture, arts, academia, medicine and sport were awarded during the current edition.

According to the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Rodica Guțu, the people should be rewarded when they become involved to make the city nicer. She called on the young people to stay or return home when they graduate from education institutions so as to make the city better and this could compete with the developed cities of the world.

The Municipal Merit Award has been conferred since 2996. This year the value of the award is 1,500 lei.
