180m lei needed to repair Presidential Building

The works to reconstruct the Presidential Building in Chisinau could be completed during a year if the necessary financial resources is allocated. A sum of 180 million lei is needed for the purpose, but no amounts have been earmarked this year in this regard.

To an inquiry by IPN, the State Chancellery said the reconstruction works on the Presidential Building that was devastated during the April 2009 protests were stopped in 2011. In September-December 2016, there were performed works to finish the building up of the metallic fence around the building. A sum of 985,400 was allocated for these works. No other investments were made in 2011-2016.

Based on the costs existing in 2011, the reconstruction works were assessed at 112 million lei. Currently, given the rise in the cost of building works and in the prices of building materials and the necessity of executing additional works on the exterior of the building, the necessary amount totals 180 million lei.

Though the repair of the Presidential Building is the responsibility of the State Chancellery, President Igor Dodon said he will identify extra-budgetary resources to perform these works and ordered to determine the financial resources needed to fully repair the building by the end of this month. The Head of State voiced hope that the works will be completed by this year’s Independence Day.
