18 teams to take part in Children’s Football Championship “Euro 2017"

The Children’s Football Championship “Euro 2017” will take place in Chisinau during May 14-21, on the initiative of the Embassies of Poland, Italy and Hungary to Moldova and of the Charity Center “Don Bosco”. The fifth edition of the championship will involve 18 teams, IPN reports.

The competition is intended for children who do not train in sports school or clubs. The participants will be classified into three groups, depending on the year of birth.

Hungary’s Ambassador in Chisinau Matyas Szilágyi told a news conference that the event is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and is also a support for children from vulnerable families. “The championship is intended for children who cannot practice football professionally, which means that this is a chance for everyone to win. Last year we had a girl footballer and I hope we will have a whole girls’ team in the future. We call on the parents to inform themselves about social events and to motivate their children to take part in them,” stated the diplomat.

Poland’s Ambassador Artur Michalski noted that at the beginning such a championship was organized in Poland and Hungary, but was then extended to Chisinau. “It is a pleasure to cooperate with “Don Bosco”. They are those who work daily with young people. We are glad to support them,” said the ambassador.

The Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Valeria Biagiotti wished the participants good luck and called on them to abide by the principles of fair play. “This initiative aims to encourage friendship and to integrate young people and those who represent the future of this country. We are particularly tied to this tournament given the tradition and attachment of Italians to football,” stated Valeria Biagiotti.

This year the organizers introduced a rule concerning fair play and instituted a special cup for the team that will behave best on the field. A special cup will also be given to the top scorer. The three awardees of each group will also get cups.

All those who want to take part are invited to the competition. The opening of the championship will take place at the Salesian Center “Don Bosco” on May 14, 2017.
