Seventeen motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during the raids carried out in the municipality of Chisinau last night, IPN reports.

Similar operations will be also performed the coming days with the aim of reducing the number of road accidents caused by persons driving under the influence. Patrolling inspectors will make effort to sensitize the road traffic participants to the risks to which they expose themselves and those around.

The legislation provides that the persons driving under the influence are liable to a fine of up to 10,000 lei or ban on driving for a period of three to five years.
