17 Moldovan athletes to compete at Youth Olympic Games

The 17 athletes who will go to Buenos Aires to take part in the third Youth Olympic Games were presented at the National Olympic and Sports Committee, IPN reports.

Moldova’s flag will be carried by wrestler Alexandrin Guțu, world cadet Greco-Roman wrestling champion. “We are glad that we have 17 qualified athletes as we had by 11 sportspersons at the previous editions. I wish them good luck so that they have the best performance,” National Olympic and Sports Committee president Nicolae Juravski stated in a news conference.

So far, five Moldovan athletes won medals at the Youth Olympic Games. Canoeist Sergei Tarnovski is the only one who won gold, in Nanjing in 2014. The other medalists are Iulia Leorda, Dmitri Ceacusta, Daniil Svareshchuk and Tatiana Doncila.
