An initial budget of around 1.7 billion lei has been allocated for national public roads this year. The figure is 300 million lei less than the previous year, when about 2 billion lei was allocated. The subject was discussed at a meeting of the Road Fund Council, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the money will be spent primarily to improve traffic conditions in terms of road conditions and traffic safety.
At the same time, out of about 2 billion lei allocated last year for national roads, more than 1.9 billion lei was spent for all works carried out in the period from January to December 2024, which is 96.7% of the total budget.
For the maintenance of national public roads was allocated the largest share of the amount - 1.1 billion lei. The works were carried out by 12 specialized companies. This money was used for winter maintenance of national public roads, works on passenger stations, roundabouts, intersections and pedestrian crossings.
Also, out of the total amount, 666 million lei were allocated for the reconstruction and repair of national public roads and engineering constructions, while more than 65 million lei were spent for the execution of road design and assessment works and land acquisition.

The State Road Administration manages 5,963 km of national roads, including 631 km of express roads, 2,005 km of republican roads and 3,334 km of regional roads.
