1.5m lei for greening Moldova

A sum of 1.5 million lei will be allocated from the National Ecological Fund for purchasing saplings and bushes that will be planted on the National Greening Day marked on November 15, IPN reports.

This autumn, the entities managed by the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” will set up forests on an area of 507 ha. Works will be performed to foster natural regeneration by sowing acorns on an area of 347 ha. Trees will be also planted on lands of other owners, on an area of 90 ha.

The local public authorities of the first and second levels this season will plant about 300,000 saplings, mainly in the municipality of Chisinau, Gagauzia and in Cimislia, Rascani, and Nisporeni districts.

Other state-run and private organizations and the population will also be supplied with trees and bushes, but for money. The 31 nurseries occupying an area of 900 ha have enough quantities of saplings. They offer 500,000 saplings of walnut, ash tree, sycamore maple, linden tree, cornel and other trees.

Last autumn, forests were planted on an area of 666 hectares. Works to stimulate natural regeneration were carried out on an area of 164 ha, while works to plant trees on the lands of other owners – on an area of 36 ha.
