15,000 people helped during Volunteer Week
Around 15,000 people, children and youth mostly, enjoyed support and assistance during the National Volunteer Week, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Coalition on promoting the volunteer law.
From April the 14th to the 21st, 62 activities were organized. As many as 30 parliamentarians, ministers, councilors, mayors and other public servants set their communities own examples of social responsibility. According to the organizers, many of the public persons offer sustainability to the activities they participated in, remaining “connected” to the cases they approached.
Only one public servant showed dissatisfaction as to acting as a volunteer, because the event got too little coverage, but the Coalition avoids to release his or her name.
19 non-governmental organizations and 6 public entities participated in the 2008 volunteer week, providing 230 hours of volunteer work. The NGO volunteers spent 1,150 hours in this respect, as the value of their labors is assessed at 20,700 lei.
