15 remand prisons renovated with EU support

Fifteen national remand prisons were revamped in accordance with the European standards. About 60 million lei provided by the EU was used for the purpose, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the General Police Inspectorate.

According to the Inspectorate, these are the remand prisons of the Police Inspectorates of Hâncești, Orhei, Cimișlia, Criuleni, Ungheni, Căușeni, Edineț, Sângerei, Râșcani, Cahul, Soroca, Comrat, Anenii Noi, Bălți and of the Chisinau Police Division.

Video monitoring and intercom systems, anti-fire security and other conditions, including for personal hygiene, were set up inside the remand prison to guarantee the safety and security and the respect for the rights of persons held there.

The remand prisons also have transparent glass doors for persons who suffer from particular phobias, such as claustrophobia, and modern control systems that help the police to guard and protect the detainees, to seek help by activating the sonorous alarm by different ways.

The improvement of the conditions in the 15 remand prisons in accordance with the best standards and practices is one of the main objectives of the action plan for implementing the police development strategy for 2016–2020.
