With 15 new cases confirmed in Moldova on March 23, the number of persons diagnosed with COVID-19 rose to 109. Eleven of the new cases are cases of local transmission, while four are cases of import, Minister of Heal, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu was quoted by IPN as saying after the meeting of the Single Command Center.
According to the minister, of the four cases of import, two were brought from France, one from Ukraine and another one from the Czech Republic. In the last case, the person travelled to the Czech Republic despite the authorities’ recommendation to refrain from traveling abroad.
Among the 11 persons who got infected locally is a pregnant woman from Ștefan-Vodă, who interacted with a person who returned from Pochaev of Ukraine. As the woman didn’t inform the doctors that she was in contact with a person who came from a country stricken by COVID-19, medical staff also got infected. Four of the cases of local transmission were recorded in the Transnistrian region.
The samples taken from the students living in the dorm of the Technical University of Moldova after one student tested positive were examined today. “We are glad that the infection didn’t spread among students of this university,” stated Viorica Dumbrăveanu.
To date, one infected person died, while another two were treated. The state of ten persons diagnosed with COVID-19 remains serious.
