The Republic of Moldova will be represented by 14 athletes at the summer European Youth Olympic Festival that will take place in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on July 14-19. The national team and its equipment were presented on June 27, IPN reports.
“This festival enables us to select the most talented young sportspersons and to create a competitive team for the future editions of the Olympic Games,” said the president of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Juravschi.
The Moldovan athletes will compete in such events as tennis, cycling, swimming, athletics, and judo alongside over 2,500 sportspersons from 49 European countries. “It is important that these athletes gain international experience. Each of them wants to win medals so as to assert themselves on the European arena,” said Victor Peicov, manager of the Olympic delegation.
The Moldovan athletes are: Anastasia Calinina, Polina Ciui, Artiom Crasicov, Stefan Mura, Anastasia Scripca (athletics), Ana Budescu, Dan Burlac, Denis Vieru, Eugenia Ciobanu (judo), Alexandra Vinichenko, Alexandra Degtearyova (swimming), Anastasia Detiuc, Adriana Sosnovschi (tennis), and Liviu Geamana (cycling).
The youth team had earlier taken part in 10 summer competitions where they won three gold medals, three silvers and seven bronzes.
