1,367 persons collect early old-age pensions

As many as 1,367 persons received early old-age pensions on October 1. The average pension was 2,567 lei. In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the National House of Social Insurance (CNAS) says these are persons who asked for an early pension in accordance with provisions of the law on the public pension system that took effect in 2017. After the given law was abrogated in 2018, the taxpayers no longer can ask for an early old-age pension when they reach a full insurance period.

Under the provisions that took effect in
2017, the insured person who has a full insurance period can ask for an early old-age pension at most three years before reaching the standard retirement age of 63, both for men and for women. This way, the primary age of persons who asked for an early old-age pension was 60 years.

When the 1,367 pensioners reach the standard retirement age, they can be offered an old-age pension at request, by adding the non-contribute and contributive periods, if the insured person continued work after the early pension was set. If the old-age pension is lower than the early pension, the person continues to receive the early pension. The early pension was calculated in the same conditions as the old-age pension is calculated.

Among the 1,367 pensioners aren’t persons with disabilities as these get pensions in accordance with other legal provisions. This category also does not include former employees of the police force who retire at an earlier age than the civilians.
