13-year-old boy from Costești found dead with gunshot wound

A boy aged 13, who was the youngest child of a family from Costești village of Ialoveni, was found dead with a gunshot wound in the head at home in the evening of May 30. Suicide is the preliminary version of the police.

Contacted by IPN, Ialoveni Police Inspectorate chief Pavel Damaschin said the police were informed about the incident by a neighbor of the family.

The hunter’s gun from which the boy allegedly shot himself was held legally by his father. The police established that the gun keeping conditions were respected. The gun was held in a metallic safe. “One of the versions is that the minor found the safe keys and took the gun,” stated Pavel Damaschin.

The boy was home alone. His father and his elder brother work abroad. His mother was in the village on business.

Asked by IPN to provide details, Svetlana Bortă, principal of the Costești Theoretical Lyceum where the boy studied in the eighth grade, said the boy had an exemplary behavior. He was modest, very receptive and educated and never expressed his dissatisfaction with something while studying. He didn’t show behavior changes in the recent past. He was communicative and friendly towards all his mates and didn’t have conflicts. No one can explain why he committed suicide.

An investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of this case.
