A 12-year-old child drowned in Ghidighici Lake in Vatra town of Chisinau municipality. It all happened when the child was swimming together with a group of friends.

Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Liliana Pușcașu said that the teenager dived and didn’t surface. The group of friends who were on the shore sounded the alarm.

Rescuers and divers of Regional Search and Rescue Division No. 1 and of the Buiucani Rescue and Firefighters Detachment intervened on the spot. They carried out searches and found the boy's body in less than an hour. Other circumstances of this case are being established.

The rescuers urge the population to strictly observe the safety rules inside and around waterbodies and to avoid areas that are not set up for swimming and do not have rescue stations. Swimming at night and in bad weather conditions is prohibited. The people are warned not to drink alcoholic beverages before entering the water. Special attention should be paid to the safety of minors during swimming.
