114 people died in almost 800 accidents due to speeding

The 799 road accidents that occurred owing to speeding in Moldova so far this year resulted in 114 deaths and 903 people hurt, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the National Public Security Inspectorate.

The Inspectorate said the intentional ignoring of the legal speed limit by some of the divers is the main cause of most of the deaths and injuries in road accidents.

On November 23, employees of the Inspectorate reported at least two cases of speeding in southern Moldova. A 33-year-old driver was travelling at a speed of 119 km/h through Cimișlia town and was caught in a radar trap. Another driver, aged 34, was travelling at a speed of 108 km/h via Cahul town. Both of the drivers were punished with a fine of 1,800 lei and five penalty points.

Now that winter is close, the National Public Security Inspectorate calls on the drivers to obey the recommendations concerning specific weather conditions and to adjust the speed to the conditions on the road and in traffic, to keep a reduced and uniform distance at turns and to maintain a safety distance from the vehicle traveling in front.
