113 rest days on weekends and holidays in 2025

The year 2025 is not a leap year and so it counts 365 days, of which 113 are rest days on weekends and holidays. Of the 13 national holidays stipulated in the Labor Code, only nine will be during the working week, IPN reports.

According to the Labor Code, the Republic of Moldova has the following bank holidays with fixed days off for all public sector employees:

January 1 - New Year's Eve (Wednesday);
January 7 and 8 - Nativity of Jesus Christ (old-style Christmas, Wednesday and Thursday);
March 8 - International Women's Day (Saturday);
May 1 - International Workers’ Day (Thursday);
May 9 - Europe Day and Day of Remembrance of Fallen Heroes (Friday);
June 1 - International Children's Day (Sunday);
August 27 - Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova (Wednesday);
August 31 - Romanian Language Day (Sunday);
December 25 – new-style Christmas (Thursday).

Holidays with a changing date:

April 20 - the first day of Easter (Sunday);
April 21 - the second day of Easter (Monday);
April 28 - Easter of the Dead (Monday).

In addition to the days off provided by the Labor Code, the calendar of holidays includes the feast days, which are non-working days for the employees in the respective localities. Chisinau celebrates its Patron Saint Day on October 14, Cahul - on November 21, Balti - on May 22, and Comrat - on August 20.

Employees summoned to work on non-working holidays benefit from a double salary, regardless of whether they are paid per hour, per day or have a monthly salary. Under certain conditions, the employer can offer a day off in exchange for the day worked, without additional remuneration.
