11-year-old dies buried under tons of soil at unsupervised facility
A 11-year-old boy died trapped under a mound of clay as he was playing at a limited-access enterprise on Chisinau's Uzinelor Street Tuesday at 17:00.
A spokesperson for the Emergency Service told Info-Prim Neo that the boy was playing with peers on the territory of a firm called Termomontaj, next to an 8 meter high clay embankment. When it collapsed, for reasons unknown yet, the fifth grader of a poor-vision boarding school from Balti was buried alive. Two other children ended up stuck waist-deep in soil.
15 minutes later when the ambulance crew arrived there was nothing to be done to save the 11-year-old. The case is investigated by the police to establish the circumstances of the tragedy and identify the persons to blame for allowing free access to the site.
Same day an almost two-year-old girl was admitted to the Mother & Child Center for detoxification after, left unattended, she fell down an outhouse in Chisinau's suburbs and spent there nearly 20 minutes. Doctors say the girl was lucky to have landed on her feet.
Because the hole in the latrine was too narrow to allow access for a grown-up, the parents used the help of a 5-year-old neighbor, whom they dipped into the hole, holding him by his feet. The boy held a rake to help the girl out.
