Almost 60% of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer wouldn’t know how to vote in a referendum – in favor of Moldova joining the European Union or for joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union. According to the last Public Opinion Barometer, 22.5% of those polled would vote for the Customs Union, while 16.1% for the European Union. At the same time, 2.2% of those surveyed said they would not take part in such a referendum, while 0.7% didn’t answer the question, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a possible referendum on Moldova’s entry into the European Union, 55% of the respondents would vote in favor. 56% of those questioned would vote for accession to the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union in a referendum on the issue. “If we add the figures, we get 111%. This means that some of the people are for joining both of the unions,” director of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie said during the presentation of the survey. Asked about the greatest plusses of a possible accession to the EU, 23.3% of those polled mentioned the liberalization of the visa regime. The same percentage sees no plus in the accession. 21.2% consider that the plus is the larger number of workplaces, 17.4% - the better living standards, 12.3% - the development of economy, while 9.8% - the higher pensions and salaries, etc. As regards the advantages of joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union, 27.3% of the respondents consider that the fuel will be cheaper, 15.2% that there will be more workplaces, 9% that the exports will increase, while 8.6% that the economy will develop. 16.4% of those surveyed believe that there will be no advantages. The Public Opinion Barometer was commissioned by the Public Policy Institute and conducted by the Center for Sociological Investigations and Marketing CBS-AXA between October 30 and November 12. It covered a sample of 1,237 persons. The margin of sampling error is ±2.8%.
