11 new trolleybuses running on routes in Chisinau

Eleven new trolleybuses assembled in Chisinau started recently to run on routes in the city. One more trolleybus will join them by this weekend. These are the first 12 trolleybuses of the 20 that are to be assembled this year, IPN reports.

Chisinau Electric Transport Company director Gheorghe Morgoci Monday said the components for the other eight units of transport will come from Belarus by the end of November. The trolleybuses will be assembled by this yearend.

According to Gheorghe Morgoci, the assembling of trolleybuses in Chisinau is the cheapest method of renewing the existing trolleybuses. They cost by up to €10,000 less than a trolleybus made at the plant in Belarus. A trolleybus assembled in Chisinau costs €150,000, including the transportation costs and the salaries of mechanics. The Chisinau Electric Transport Company can assemble 50 units of transport annually, but they do not have enough money for this.

Chisinau Finance Division head Veronica Herta said that 50 million lei will be allocated next year for purchasing new trolleybuses. A sum of 46.4 million lei was earmarked this year for the purpose.

More than 250 trolleybuses run on routes in Chisinau at present. Of them, 112 are new.
