11 engineers of Iasi hail unit receive certificates in Chisinau

The Special Service for Active Influence on the Hydrometeorology Processes handed over certificates to a group of Romanian engineers specialized in protection against hail, who completed their studies in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Service’s head Ion Garaba said the 11 engineers finished the theoretical course and will be involved in practical exercises in May. The new practices learned by the engineers will contribute to reducing the danger of hail in the border area. “It is known that nature does not have borders. The hail processes that happen on Romania’s territory also affect the left bank of the Prut, including the districts of Briceni and Nisporeni,” said Ion Garaba. Gheorghe Caunei Florescu, the head of the Anti-Hail Division of the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture, said that Moldova has over 54 years’ experience in this field and the Romanian engineers learn from this experience through courses. According to the Special Service for Active Influence on the Hydrometeorology Processes, in 2006-2009 the hail affected over 13,000 hectares in the border area. The damage was assessed at over 62 million lei.
