The opposition and the government express their gratitude to Romania for the €100 million that it intends to offer to the Republic of Moldova as non-reimbursable assistance. Representatives of PAS said the money will be directed to infrastructure projects, especially in rural areas, so as to improve the quality of life in villages. For its part, the opposition demands that this assistance should not be politicized and that the funds should benefit all the localities, regardless of the political affiliation of the local authorities, IPN reports.
The agreement on non-reimbursable financial and technical assistance to the value of €100 million is to be signed during the February 11 meeting of the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. The agreement is valid for a period of seven years and can be extended for another three years.
“This time, the 100 million or 2 billion lei will be used to satisfy people’s needs. The money will go on roads, local infrastructure, water, sewerage. It goes to that European village we promised in the election campaign. This non-reimbursable assistance is the proof of the friendship and close relationship between the Government in Chisinau and the Government in Bucharest and this joint meeting of the Governments will be a historical event indeed,” PAS MP Mihai Popșoi stated in a special edition on the public TV channel.
Representatives of the PCRM-PSRM Bloc wondered why such grandiose events need to be staged in a pandemic period. They said the agenda of the joint meeting of the executives is camouflaged.
“We will yet see how well this money is used. It is somehow strange that the whole Cabinet of Romania comes here. We have a pandemic and tell the people to stay indoors, but stage such joint meetings. They probably have another agenda than the provision of this money. It goes to the regional, security context and to threats as what is there to be discussed about this money for so long?” asked BCS MP Grigore Novac.
Representatives of Șor Party said maximum transparently should be ensured in the spending of the €100 million offered by Romania and consultations on the final destination of this money should be held between the central and district authorities.
“We advise the Romanian authorities to include the local public authorities in this project. It is good that they discuss with the central authorities, with the Government, but they should also take into account the opinion of the local authorities of the second level. We should extend the format. This financial support from Romania should not be politicized,” stated Dinu Țurcanu, of Șor Party.
The acting president of PPDA Dinu Plîngău thanked Romania for its consistent and unconditional support for Moldova and asked the Moldovan Government to fully realize the potential of this agreement.
“We are going through a difficult period and we see the polemics of the parliamentary parties, but they are equally responsible for the current situation in the Republic of Moldova, some of them because they contributed to the bank fraud, while others because they badly managed the situation in the past and were unable to absorb this financial support from Romania much earlier,” stated Dinu Plîngău.
In the joint meeting of the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania set for February 11, there will be also signed an agreement on the building of a bridge between Ungheni in Moldova and Ungheni in Romania, an agreement on the renovation and modernization of the Ghiurgiulești-Galați bridge and an agreement on the reduction of roaming charges.
