In Moldova, there are about 100,000 children left behind by migrant parents, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I assure you the problem of children left without parental care is a priority for the Government and the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family. Migration, poverty and other phenomena have affected Moldovan families and we have 100,000 children left behind by parents, while the legal framework doesn’t provide enough protection for them”, said Valentina Buliga, Minister of Labor, during a session of the Investigative Journalism Club, organized with the participation of the International Organization for Migration. According to Andrei Lutenco, IOM representative, the Moldovan and Italian Ministries of Labor and Social Protection and IOM will launch a project which ranges from informing parents who want to go abroad to offering assistance for children left behind. “We try to work at local level, assisting organizations providing social services. We face more and more cases of children being left behind, either alone or taken care of by close relatives. Children lack affection and love, but are okay money-wise”, said Roman Poznanski, delegate of Terre des Hommes Foundation. Valentina Buliga mentioned that Moldovan parents’ responsibility for their children was low.
