100,000 antigen tests from Romania delivered to Chisinau

Romania donated 100,000 COVID-19 antigen tests to the Republic of Moldova. The consignment was shipped to Chisinau in the evening of September 3. The tests were stored at the National Public Health Agency and will be later distributed to ambulance teams for testing persons suspected of having COVID-19 at home, when such requests are made, IPN reports.

According to Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco, the consignment of antigen tests is important for the Republic of Moldova as, amid the current wave of infections, the people should be tested on time and isolated so that they stay at home while infected and serious cases are prevented. The minister called on the people to show solidarity and to get a vaccine so that things can return to normality.

The ambulance teams will be provided with tests so as to tests persons on request. Until now, the ambulance teams weren’t supplied with tests and could not make an accurate diagnosis.

Ala Nemerenco said that the tests would be also used for children where the conditions and infrastructure do not enable the children to physically attend school. “This possibility is being considered so that more children can be physically present in classrooms,” stated the minister.

Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță said the donation of tests is a gesture of brotherly solidarity made by Romania for the Republic of Moldova. The lot of 100,000 rapid antigen tests was delivered to Moldova several days after the country celebrated a number of national holidays. The tests are a present on this occasion and are designed to stimulate the Moldovans be more responsible and to succeed together in overcoming the pandemic by responsibility and solidary.

The diplomat noted the population should realize that they will manage to return to a normal life only through vaccination and responsible behavior.

Daniel Ioniță related that the tests represent the fulfillment of a promise that the Romanian minister of foreign affairs made to President Maia Sandu during his visit on July 23.

Since the start of the pandemic, Romania has donated about half a million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Moldova.
