10,000 tonnes of garbage to be collected in one day
The Chisinau City Hall will be one of the partners of the ecological project “Hai, Moldova!”. The event will engage society in a large-scale cleanup campaign themed “Let’s clean the whole country in one day!”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Representatives of the public association Medium, which initiated the campaign, will design an o-line map of unauthorized waste dumps and insalubrious places. Afterwards, people will be called upon to participate in a wide cleanup campaign one day this spring.
In the January 31 meeting of the City Hall, Medium association head Daniela Cibotaru said an estimated 10,000 tonnes of garbage would be collected if 100,000 people get involved.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca assured that the local authorities would do their utmost for the campaign to succeed. The project “Hai, Moldova!” will be included in the spring cleanup plan of the City Hall every year.
The mayor called on the mayors of the suburban settlements to involve too and to encourage people to gather litter in their communities.
The official opening of the project will take place on Wednesday, February 2.
The first project of the kind was implemented in Estonia in 2008. Afterwards, countries like Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Finland, Portugal, Italy, India, Ukraine, Romania, Brazil, and Serbia followed the example.
