1000 lei fines for smoking and drinking alcohol in forbidden places

Those who will take a risk to smoke or drink alcohol in a forbidden place will be liable to fines ranging from 600 lei ($53) to 1000 lei ($89) after the updated Code of Administrative Offences takes effect on May 31, Info-Prim Neo reports. Selling tobacco or liquor to minors will be punished with fines from 1,200 ($106) to 2,000 ($178) lei, and/or with the suspension of the license for up to one year. However, the fines for those who will carry or use narcotic drugs without a doctor's prescription will be considerably lower – from 60 to 200 lei, or up to 40 hours of community service. Planting narcotic crops will be punished with 600 to 1,200 lei. The fines increase in the case of persons in position of authority – 2,000 to 6,000 lei, and for commercial entities – 6,000 to 8,000 lei, with license suspension for up to one year.
