1000 km of water pipes built over the last 2 years

Over the last two years, about 1000 km of water pipes have been built in Moldova. The value of these works is estimated at €114 million. The authorities say that this is only a first step in assuring the people’s access to water and sewage systems, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that in 2000-2009 only €31 million had been invested in this field. Meanwhile, the investments over the last two years rise to €114 million. 136 water mains have been funded from the public budget. “We are happy with these figures, but they indicated that we only at the beginning. In Moldova, half the population drinks poor quality water. We have a lot of work to do”, said Vlad Filat. He added that investments in access to water are direct investments in people’s health and in their future. Minister of Environment Gheorghe Salaru said that the European Union offered €50 million in several installments over years. With these funds, 10 km of water pipes will be built and equipment at 37 water pump stations and 11 sewage pump stations will be replaced.
