The last consignment of about 100 tonnes of liquid pesticides in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, in the districts Basarabeasca, Leova, Taraclia, and Cahul, will be removed by this October, IPN has learned from the Ministry of the Environment.
The pesticides are disposed of within the Elimination of Unused, Obsolete and Banned Pesticides Stocks Project that is financed with money from the National Ecological Fund. Its goal is to remove the whole stock of contaminated liquid and packed pesticides from the country, which total about 200 tonnes in 12 stores.
As many as 100 tonnes of pesticides from seven districts in northern Moldova have been so far removed within the project that was launched in March. The works to repack, transport and destroy the pesticide waste and contaminated packing are performed by a Polish company in cooperation with a company from Germany.
