About 100 tones of low quality concrete from Rabnita city amounting to about 80 million lei was sold last year in Chisinau and other localities as a product of JSC “Ciment” brand of the French concern “Lafarge”. According to the expertise the concrete was hardly resisting to two cycles of freezing-unfreezing, so the constructions were it was used are very fragile. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the low quality concrete from Rabnita “was becoming qualitative” after it was packed in Rezina in bags of JSC “Ciment”. Further it was sold at a higher price. The employees of cross-border and informational offences from MIA established the involvement in this fraud of 4 company heads, who being helped by corrupt customs officers from the internal customs service “Rezina-Pod”, were distributing the low quality concrete in different localities using official accountant documents. On June 22, 9 trucks with bad concrete were caught in the act, 6 of which were not registered at the customs service, and 3 were transporting a double quantity of concrete than the one declared in the documents. The investigations established that the criminal group was transporting daily 10-30 trucks, each with a quantity of about 35-40 tones of concrete. To those 4 heads of companies, inclusively to a woman penal proceedings were instituted. If they will be found guilty of contraband and evading from paying the customs taxes, the members of the group might be imprisoned for a term up to 10 years. The penal investigation bodies instituted in 2006, 1925 economic penal proceedings, of which 349 – cases of contraband, 45 – money counterfeit, 241 – briberies, 685 – grand thefts.
