100% of votes cast in legislative elections counted

The preliminary results, with 100% of the votes cast in the February 24 elections being counted, show the Party of Socialists gained 35 seats of MP, the Democratic Party – 30, the electoral bloc ACUM Platform DA and PAS – 26 and the Shor Party – seven. Three independent candidates also entered Parliament, IPN reports.

For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, the 101 MPs were elected under the newly introduced mixed electoral system.

In the national constituency that yields 50 MPs based on the proportional representation system, the PSRM won 31.15% of the ballot. This is followed by the electoral bloc ACUM with 26.84% of the vote, the PDM with 23.62% and the Shor Party with 8.32%. The other 11 contenders scored less than the 6% election threshold.

The other 51 MPs were elected in the 51 single-member constituencies. The PDM obtained 17 seats, as the PSRM did. The candidates of ACUM won the elections in 12 single-member constituencies. The Shor Party won in two constituencies. Independent candidates Alexandr Oleinic, Ion Groza and Viorel Melnic will also serve as MPs.

The turnout at last Sunday’s elections was 49,22%, which is 1 453 013 voters.
