Victor Chirilă: There is unity of vision in Chisinau and Bucharest

The parties in Romania, those that are in power and those that are in the opposition, want to help the Republic of Moldova to make progress in doing reforms, said the ambassador-designate of Moldova to Romania Victor Chirilă. According to the diplomat, now the Republic of Moldova has a unique chance to come closer to the European Union as there is unity of vision between the authorities of the two states, IPN reports.

Ambassador-designate Victor Chirilă said given that the Republic of Moldova has a stable, pro-European government, it can come closer to the EU, while Romania remains the most importance advocate of Chisinau in Brussels.

“This time, we have a very stable pro-European and pro-Romania majority in Chisinau, which knows what it wants, has a view and will and is open to have a diversified dialogue with Romania. The same thing is seen in Bucharest. I noticed unprecedented openness in the relations with the Republic of Moldova. All the political forces, either they are in power or in the opposition, want to help us advance on the path of European integration by implementing concrete economic, infrastructure, cultural projects. There is unity of vision and this will facilitate work in Bucharest,” Victor Chirilă stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The ambassador said the priority of his tenure is to implement the provisions of the Roadmap concerning Moldovan-Romanian cooperation that was signed on November 23 in Bucharest. In accordance with the document, a new agreement on non-reimbursable financial assistance intended for the Republic of Moldova will be signed, infrastructure projects will be implemented, such as the building of the Ungheni (Romania) - Ungheni (Republic of Moldova) road bridge, reinforcing of the Galați-Giurgiulești road bridge, rehabilitation of the Galați-Giurgiulești rail bridge, and cooperation in energy security will be strengthened.

“Romania wants to help us to swifter integrate into the European Union, to advance on the path of reforms, to make progress in building the rule of law. It wants to help us create a joint economic area with Romania and, implicitly, with the European Union as it realizes that this way it can contribute to political and economic stability in the Republic of Moldova, to the citizens’ prosperity. It is great luck that we have such an ally as Romania that does not make its assistance conditional upon political ambitions,” said the ambassador-designate.

Victor Chirilă was designated ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania by the Government on November 3. Chirilă will officially start his duties when he presents his credentials to the President of Romania. Victor Chirilă earlier held the post of executive director of the Foreign Policy Association.
