World community celebrates International Museum Day


International Museum Day this year is celebrated under the theme “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”. The social stakeholders are urged to realize the potential of museums as promoters of recovery and innovation in the post-COVID-19 period. To celebrate the diversity of cultural heritage and to familiarize the public with the museum collections, the museums in Moldova organize events to which all those who want to attend are invited, IPN reports.

The National Museum of Arts of Moldova will inaugurate an exhibition of paintings and graphics made by Bessarabian artist Pavel Shilingovski at 4pm. Entrance is free for all categories of visitors, to all the Museum’s exhibitions.

The National Museum of History of Moldova invites to the workshop “Magic of Cucuteni Plates” that will take place on Tuesday, from morning till evening. The visits to and activities of the workshop are free.

The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History during May 13-30 will exhibit originals of documents concerning the founding of Noului Neamț Monastery, while on May 22 and 23, between 10am and 4pm, the Museum’s yard will host the Craftspeople’s Fair.

The National Museum of Literature “Mihail Kogălniceanu” and its branches can be visited gratis on May 18. On May 21, at 4pm, there will be mounted a street exhibition titled “Writers from Union Chronicle”, at the head office situated at 79 Alexei Mateevici St.

On May 22, at 10am, the Museum House “A.S. Pushkin” will stage an exhibition and a performance of music and poetry. Entrance is free of charge.

The International Museum Day was officially established in 1977 with the adoption of a resolution during the ICOM General Assembly to create an annual event with the aim of further unifying the creative aspirations and efforts of museums.
