The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) sued the Public Services Agency after this registered the Pro Moldova Party. PDM leader Pavel Filip said the registration is illegal as there are also other organizations with this name in Moldova, IPN reports.
“This is an attempt to do justice as knowledgeable colleagues told me that this is illegal. This party was registered with violations of the law. The law clearly provides that if such a name was already registered and belongs to another organization, it cannot be given to someone else,” Pavel Filip stated in the talk show “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova1.
According to him, besides the Pro Moldova Party, there are three more organizations with the same name in Moldova. “From our viewpoint, the law was broken when offering the name Pro Moldova to a political party. That’s why we made a preliminary request to the Public Services Agency. We also notified the Prosecutor General’s Office and filed a lawsuit. We will try to get at the truth in court,” stated Pavel Filip.
He noted the PDM wants the registration of the Pro Moldova Party to be annulled. “They should follow another path with another name as the law provides that one cannot use the same name if this was already given to another organization,” said the politician.
On June 22, the leader of the Pro Moldova Party Andrian Candu announced that the party was officially registered in Moldova after meeting all the legal requirements. There were collected more than 6,000 signatures in support and created 23 local organizations.
