The organized transportation of voters to the polls at the new local elections on November 21 is banned. A decision to this effect was adopted by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on November 16, IPN reports.

According to the document, in a move to combat the organized transportation of voters to polling stations by election contenders or third parties on election day in 15 localities of the Republic of Moldova, including the municipality of Bălți, during the voting period, between 7am and 9pm, only the movement of motor vehicles with a transportation capacity of at most eight persons and of motor vehicles transporting passengers on regular routes operated according to Moldova’s legislation will be allowed.

Between 7am and 9pm on election day, the election contenders or third parties acting in the interests of election contestants are banned from transporting voters to polling stations for the purpose of influencing them to vote a particular candidate. It is also banned taking voters to the polls by motor vehicles with a transportation capacity larger than eight persons and by regular taxi-regime routes operated in accordance with agreements with third parties, others than the traveller/voter, except for cases when the voter has disabilities.

It is not allowed taking repeatedly voters to polling stations by motor vehicles with a transportation capacity of at most eight persons. The CEC’s decision does not apply to transportation of persons by pay regular special services, by pay occasional services and by own motor vehicles.

If the given norms are not respected, the General Police Inspectorate, the National Road Transport Agency and the State Tax Service, which will supervise the situation, will make sure that the violations are stopped by reporting every four hours all the recorded and/or documented cases to the CEC. Within 24 hours of election day, they will present a detailed report on the ascertained acts and the taken actions and measures.

New local mayoral elections on November 21 will take place in 15 settlements of Moldova.
