European integration is the idea that will unite society, Nicolae Timofti

President Nicolae Timofti said that Moldovan society is divided according to different criteria and the European integration is the solution for uniting the people. “We need an idea that will unite society and will make it move on as a whole. I think that the European integration should become this idea. Moldova during the last few years made progress in this respect, but the European integration continues to be perceived as a project of the government rather than a national project,” he stated in Friday’s sitting of Parliament, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Nicolae Timofti said that he will actively cooperate with the Government, Parliament and other state institutions in promoting the reforms that will bring Moldova closer to the EU and will help create European living standards in the country. “The people should understand that the European Union is an area of welfare and values and they deserve to form part of this area, but should make effort for this to happen,” he stressed. The European integration process cannot be joined with other political projects, said Nicolae Timofti, underlining that as head of state he will provide the support needed to continue these process that will bring benefits to the Moldovan people. Nicolae Timofti said that Moldova is surrounded by friends and is considered a sincere, predictable and reliable partner and this situation provides advantages that should be used for the people’s benefit. He also said that Moldova should continue building good neighborhood relations with Ukraine and Romania and strategic partnership relations with Russia, the U.S., Germany and other states. “Moldova should use its geographic position and take all the opportunities offered by the regional cooperation organizations so as to gain advantages. The thesis that at political, economic and cultural levels Moldova can become a bridge head connecting Eastern European and Western Europe is now topical and if it is implemented we will only win,” stated the new President. Nicolae Timofti was elected President of Moldova by 62 votes of MP on March 16.
