The autumn cleanup in the municipality of Chisinau begins on September 20 and will last until the end of November. In the period, the municipal subdivisions will gather dry leaves and other vegetal and household waste. Vasile Efros, section head at the Public Amenities Division, called on those who collect waste, including business entities, to gather this separately and not to mix it with such household waste as plastic, paper or glass, and to take the waste to the dump on Calea Ghidighici St, where the leaves are subject to composting.

Vasile Efros has told IPN that all the municipal services are involved in the autumn cleanup, including in the collection of leaves that will be taken to the dump. “A vegetal waste composting program will be launched this year. The leaves will be collected all over the city, including on streets, in yards of apartment buildings, parks, squares and territories of education institutions,” said the functionary.

Vasile Efros also said that even if a broad cleanup campaign was carried out in spring and regular works were performed in summer, there are now a number of rather dirty areas, such as the bank of the Bâc River and places near “Calea Basarabiei” Market. This autumn, the Division will act concertedly so as to cover larger areas and will also place new containers at waste collections platforms. There will be planted about 50,000 trees in parks, squares and other areas that need to be greened. This will be the responsibility of the Green Areas Association.

Vasile Efros noted the managers of apartment buildings, associations of dwellers and others should maximally become involved by cleaning the yards and not only.

The staff of the Chisinau City Hall will take part in the cleanup campaign on Saturdays.

Under an order made by mayor general Ion Ceban in connection with the autumn cleanup, the burning of waste of any type is banned, while the participants in the campaign must obey the public health measures so to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
