The Chisinau/Ciocana Court today satisfied prosecutors’ request to have the house arrest for ex-President Igor Dodon extended for another 30 days.
Prosecutor Petru Iarmaliuc told reporters that on Monday formal charges were brought against the Socialist Party’s accountant as well. She is suspected of falsifying the party’s financial reports and of accepting illegal financing, among eight other related charges.
Nicolae Posturusu, a lawyer for Dodon, said the arrest extension will be appealed.
Dodon is accused of passive corruption, of accepting illegal financing for his party from a criminal organization, high treason and illicit enrichment. The former president denies any wrongdoing, denouncing the case against him as “politically motivated”.
