Voronin: Not even Alliance wants Lupu to be president anymore

Communist leader Vladimir Voronin stated on Thursday during one of the breaks of the Parliament's session that not even the component parties of the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AEI) want Democrat Marian Lupu to be president anymore, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin claims that AEI is struggling with major internal tensions which it seeks to keep secret. “We can only observe what happens at the Alliance's surface. But there are more serious issues going on there”, said Vladimir Voronin, avoiding to explain what he was implying. Further, Vladimir Voronin said that the “technical solution” proposed by the Communist Party to elect the president was possible only in the absence of “any political conditions”. “If technically, without any political issues, we are able to agree on a candidate supported both by the Communists Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, then we will give our vote and will put an end to this political crisis”, said Voronin. Asked to comment on Voronin's statements about Marian Lupu, Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu stated that Vladimir Voronin was seeking to compromise the AEI, “but the governing coalition is smarter and will not let itself be influenced by this”.
