Bogumil Luft, Ambassador of Poland to Moldova in 2010-2012 and to Romania in 1993-1999, presented his volume “Romanians Are After Happy Ending”, which was translated by his wife Ana Maria Luft. In the launch, the diplomat said that he decided to write this book so that the Polish people and not only they know Romania and Moldova as he saw them. “When my colleagues from Poland ask me about the Romanians from booth banks of the Prut, I tell them: “Please, read the book!” he stated, jokingly, quoted by IPN.
The volume, which was earlier launched in a number of Romanian towns, is considered one of the most objective books about the recent history of the Romanians because its author is an impartial observer of the Romanian life. The author describes the time since Romania was a rich country in the inter-war period, when thousands of guestarbaiters came from Italy and constructed superb villages for the Romanian wealthy persons, up to the bloody Revolution of1989.
Bogumil Luft said that in his book he related his experience of diplomat and what he learned about the people of Romania and Moldova, which had a very difficult fate. The main conclusion of the book is that there is no happy ending for the two states, but this does not mean that the pursuit for such an ending should be stopped.
Born in 1955, Bogumił Luft is a journalist and writer who started to cooperate with the monthly journal “Więź” in 1981.
