Veris coach Lilian Popescu contributed to the elimination of his former team from the 1/8 finals of Moldova’s Cup. FC Costuleni was beaten 0-3 in a match played at the Buiucani Sports Complex, IPN reports.

The goals were scored by Dumitru Bacal (third minute), Valeriu Andronic (39th) and Serghei Alexeev (60th). In the quarterfinals, Veris plays the championship’s leader Sheriff Tiraspol, which defeated Olimpia 4-0.

“I do not think about the encounter with Sheriff as there is still plenty of time until it. The coming match is the most important one. Sunday’s game against Academia will not be an easy one,” Lilian Popescu told a news conference after the match.

The fixture between FC Tiraspol and Saxan turned out to be the most balanced one. The team from Tiraspol won a 1-0 victory owing to the goal scored by Karaneychev. Elsewhere, Academia won against Sfantul Gheorghe 3-0, all the goals being scored by former international Denis Calincov. In the quarterfinals, Academia meets Dacia. Milsami beat Real-Succes 2-0 owing to the goals scored by Constantin Iavorschi.
