Tricolor of 1,200m² in support of Bessarabia‘s union with Romania

A group of about 100 Bessarabians sewed a huge tricolor of 1,200m² to show their support for the union with Romania. The flag will be carried by the participants in the March for Bessarabia that will take place in Bucharest on Sunday, October 20, IPN reports.

Cristina Zelinschi, one of the organizers and participants in the march, has told IPN that the tricolor was sewed during three weeks and is the greatest ever made. “The march itself and this tricolor are a response to the Romanian President’s statements that if we seek the union, we will obtain it. The participation in the march represents an additional proof of the incontestable ties between the Romanians from both banks of the Prut,” she stated.

The Union March will set off from the Government Building (the Victory Square) at 2pm and will end at the Palace of Parliament (the Park “Izvor”).

The organizers expect more than 10,000 residents of Bucharest to answer their call and to demand that the union with Moldova be a national priority. Romanian civil society submitted a relevant legislative initiative to Parliament.

A similar in size meeting was held last September in Chisinau. These street events are staged by the Civic Action 2012, which is a coalition of over 30 NGOs from Moldova, the U.S., Canada, Romania and other EU member states.
