The critics and admirers of theatrical art say that the theatre is one of the great inventions of humanity. Over the centuries, the theatre presented a mirror to the world and explained the place human beings belong to. Melpomene, the muse of tragedy, comes from Dante’s country, from the galleries of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Rafael d’Urbino. The World Theatre Day was instituted in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). It is celebrated each year on March 27 by ITI Centres and the international theatre community, various national and international theatre events being organised on this occasion.
