Strong wind leaves without power about 70 settlements across Moldova

About 70 settlements in Moldova remained completely or partially without power as a result of the high wind registered two days ago, gusting up to 15-20 m/s, Info-Prim Neo reports. As press officer at the Emergency Situations Department, Rubina Bubuioc states, early on Tuesday, January 30, power was lost in 43 settlements, while partial power cuts were reported in another 25. The south of the country took the strongest wind, where 9 villages in Leova and 6 villages in Cahul and Cantemir were in blackout. The high wind caused partial power disruption in 10 villages in Cantemir, complete cuts – in 4 villages in Falesti and Hancesti, partial cuts – in 4 villages in Calarasi, 3 villages in Hancesti. Twenty nine specialised teams, with 70 persons involved, are being engaged at the moment in helping to restore power. Ten settlements now have their power restored. According to the cited source, the strong wind caused minor damages and made no victims. Damage is now being estimated. Specialists at “Moldelectrica” Enterprise, distribution power networks Nord, Nord-Vest and “Union Fenosa” Company say that the disconnections are caused by short circuits or by damage at substations. Hospitals, medical centres, schools, kindergartens and enterprises are reconnected to the power network the first.
