Radu Albot qualifies for final of ATP tournament

Radu Albot for the first time has qualified for the final of an ATP tournament. In the final qualifying rounds of Aircel Chennai Open in India on December 30, which has prize money of US$459,000, Albot beat Austria’s Phillip Oswald, who ranks 981st in the ATP rankings, by 6-3, 6-4, IPN reports.

As a result, Albot secured at least 12 points in the ATP rankings and at least US$4,116. In the first round of the competition, he will meet Spain’s Marcel Granollers, who ranks 38th in the ATP rankings. The main favorite of the India tournament is Stanislav Wawrinka of Switzerland.

A similar result was achieved by Roman Borvanov. In 2011, he also went through to the finals of the ATP 250 tournament in San Jose, the U.S., but was beaten in the first round by Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.
