The Prut-Fălești main water supply system will be put into operation as part of a project that also considers the regionalization of the public water supply service. This will be preceded by a technical assessment for the existing infrastructure. The Regional Development Agency Nord and local authorities of Fălești district have initiated the development of the complete funding request for the implementation of the project.
The new project in Fălești district foresees, in the first stage, the creation of access to drinking water for about 26,000 citizens, 60 public institutions and 400 businesses in ten Fălești localities.
Construction of the old water supply system fed by the Prut River for the towns in Fălești district began in 1984. Since then, several investment measures have been carried out. In 2012, after a water treatment plant was set up in the city of Făleşti, water from the Prut did not reach the houses of Fălești because of the failure of the old Prut-Fălești water system. Until now, investments in the Prut-Fălești system have amounted to over 100 million lei, contributed by the National Fund for Regional Development and other national sources.
