The tiger of the Zoological Garden of Chisinau, who attacked an animal care worker on January 31, does not have changes in his behavior. The head of the Zoo’s Strategic Planning Section Olga Iuzvac has told IPN that the animal remained in the same cage. A commission was set up to determine what made the animal attack.
As a result of the investigation, the administration of the Zoo will decide if the care workers should take additional security measures when feeding dangerous animals and cleaning the cages. No such cases took place at the Zoo since 1978, when the institution was founded.
Olga Iuzvac said the employee who was attacked has worked at the Zoo since last October. He suffered a number of injuries, including a penetrating neck injury. He underwent surgery and his state remains grave, but stable.
The animal care worker of the Zoological Garden of Chisinau was attacked and bitten by a tiger when he entered the cage to leave food. The animal left the prey only when a police officer fired gunshots in the air.
In 2003, a tiger of the Zoo tore away a girl’s hand when she approached the cage too much.
