Incumbent First Deputy Prime Minister has been proposed to serve as Premier by President Vladimir Voronin during consultations with the representatives of the parliamentary factions, held on Thursday, March 20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The consultations lasted for barely more than a minute. The President was very short and just announced the name of the candidate for the Premier’s seat. The parliamentarians had no questions to ask from the head of state either. The only solicitation came from Dumitru Ivanov, the vice president of the Democratic Party, who suggested that the office of Education Minister should be offered to a professional with a rich experience in pre-higher education.
The president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party, Serafim Urecheanu, told reporters that, actually, no consultations were held with the opposition. “The President just came in with a scornful face and said: Greceanyi. And that’s how the consultations ended”, said the AMN leader. The nomination hasn’t taken Urecheanu by surprise, and so has “Tarlev’s imposed departure”. The parliamentarian presumes Vasile Tarlev is ready for taking another job, in case the Communists win again a majority of seats following the legislative elections. AMN will not vote for the new Government, as it did in the case of the Tarlev Cabinet and Tarlev’s resignation, declared Urecheanu.
Democratic leader Dumitru Diacov stated that Greceanyi’s nomination today was predictable. “A nomination that was talked about behind the scenes and that was officially announced today”, Diacov remarked. Asked whether the Democrats would back the proposed candidate, the MP said “I don’t think we should get involved”.
Iurie Rosca, the leader of the Christian-Democratic People’s Party, showed no signs of surprise either. According to him, the move was predictable, yet rather fortunate as Zinaida Greceanyi is a person of impeccable repute. “She is a professional, she has a rich experience in public administration, a good reputation, and no wrinkle in her biography that would suggest unfairness, corruption or abuse. The Government will make steps forward and her name in front of the Government will be a challenge to the Opposition”, Rosca believes.
Within 15 days from the Government’s resignation, the President is to propose a candidate for the position of Prime Minister to the Parliament, which shall be approved by a vote of confidence of the parliamentary majority.
